As of September 12, 2008 the name of Churandy Martina is officially registered at the Bureau voor Intellectuele Eigendom (Intellectual Property Office), hereinafter: “BIE”. Due to the registration of the name of this top athlete, third parties are not allowed to use his name as a brand or in any other way to offer their products or services without his prior consent. His name can for example not be used, without his permission, for jewellery, clothing, footwear, headgear, sporting articles, drinks, sporting and cultural activities.

The registration of the name of Churandy Martina at the BIE is a gift from Van de Laarschot & Associates, the exclusive lawyers of the NAOC for this Olympic year. During an excellent dinner provided by Omundo restaurant, organized by the NAOC last Saturday October 4, 2008, Paul van de Laarschot, partner at the lawyer’s office, offered the certificate of registration to Churandy Martina.
